Unfortunately, I have to announce that, effective immediately, SAI's building will be closed until further notice.

Things have gone from bad to worse since the Heartland incident. The anti-monster protestors have gone from jeering chants and insults to death threats and violence and I can no longer ensure the safety of anyone there.

It's no secret that Yuma works for SAI, so now they think we're just creating 'monster terrorists' or something. Those of us with public emails have been sent death threats, they've thrown rocks through our windows, anyone who comes close to the building gets an angry mob chasing and attacking them and the other day they tried to force their way in and they only backed off when we had some of the more scarier looking Duel Spirits chase them off.
Honestly, it was actually kind of terrifying and they almost got in. I have no idea what they would've done if they had, but they absolutely had items with them they could use as weapons.

We've tried to do what we can to relocate the smaller spirits from the Spirit House in order to keep them safe, so if anyone can house some small duel spirits temporarily, it would be appreciated, because Sakana is rather overrun with them currently.

I released a statement this morning through SAI's website and socials that we will not, at all, tolerate any harassment of our staff, their family members, or those that use our services and that we reserve the right to forcefully remove anyone causing a commotion on our grounds and any evidence from our security cameras will be sent to Sector Security.

I also stated if anyone has any issue with me, to take it up with me privately. I am NOT going to tolerate my family being put in any kind of danger.

What happened to Asuka really pissed me off.

So recently there have been protests happening outside the main entrance to SAI's building. The same people turning up every day to shout at us through megaphones about how 'Monsters need to go back to where they came from' and all that crap.

I tried going out and speaking with them the other day, but they wouldn't listen and just threw large tomatoes at me...
... which had rocks hidden in them.

Then today we've noticed there have been a number of attempts to hack into SAI's database, probably in an effort to gain access to our secure database on those who use our services.
No need to worry, the security we have on it is top notch and caught every attempt, but just in case, I got Yusei, who designed our data security, to take a look at it. He pretty much said they were very amateur attempts and 'they really don't know what they're doing.'
Then he updated the security on it to be even harder to get into.

For now, if you need to visit SAI, contact us first on our e-mail or phone number and we'll let you know how you can enter the building safely.

For staff, if any of the protesters outside even lay a finger on you, let me know.

At this point, I think we need a Spirit Sanctuary, rather than a Spirit House, with this bigger influx of smaller spirits we have at the moment.

You know, it's crazy to think that when I first met Tomoko here at Sakana, she was only a year older than my own daughter is now.

Tomoko's 18 now, has graduated from Duel Academy, is in college and is officially working at SAI as the main caretaker of the Spirit House, a job I've honestly been waiting to give her once she had more time to do it.

I was just finalizing some of the stuff for that position she has now and I just thought 'How'd she grow up so fast?'

I'll probably be thinking the same about Asami in 15 years time.

My almost 2-year-old daughter just walked up to me, said 'Happy birthday', then placed a handful of Pharaoh's cat kibble in my hand and walked off.

Which means she somehow got through all the child-locks I put on the cupboard we keep the cat food in.

Again.

I'm not sure if there's a word to describe the mix of feelings between exasperation and 'okay that was kinda cute'.

1) He is sat on a small picnic blanket under a tree in Domino City Park, typing on his laptop. Sat next to him is his almost 9-month-old daughter, Asami, who is babbling and squealing with joy as Winged Kuriboh flies and bobs around her for entertainment. She's trying to reach up and grab at it, but Winged Kuriboh is keeping just out of reach!

2) He's sat at his desk in his office at SAI, answering e-mails on his computer, he's open for any visits though, be them personal or business.*

You know, it's hard to believe that Asami is already 7 months old. She's starting to try and figure out the whole 'crawling' thing, and she can sort of move herself, but right now she mostly just moves backwards... or even just... rolls. It's kinda funny watching her.

We think she's starting to teeth too. She's definitely been fussier than usual recently.

I took her out for a few hours yesterday so Midori-san and Kouyou-san could meet her in person for the first time! I don't get to see either of them very often as we're all really busy, but we managed to actually make our schedules work finally. They really enjoyed getting to see her.

Some days at work it can be endless paperwork and meetings.

And some days you get asked to sign almost an entire deck of cards.

I don't think I've ever been asked to sign that many cards at once even when I was actively dueling professionally.

As of 4 days ago, we have a new little addition to our family!

Our daughter, Asami, was born on the 29th of September.
Both her and Asuka are doing fine. We've mostly been taking time to adjust to our new roles as parents, hence the somewhat late update on this.

Also I'm pretty sure I don't know what sleep is anymore, but she's worth it!

I remember wondering last year if I should do something big for my 30th, but I think the fact that I'm going to be a dad in just less than a month is pretty big enough.

So, as you may have heard, Asuka and I are expecting a new family member a little later this year. I'm both excited and nervous, but I'm really looking forward to being a dad.

I haven't really been around much on here lately, due to the preparations we've been needing to do both at home and at SAI as well. I'll be taking a bit of a step back from SAI to concentrate on family, but on the days when I'm not around, I know my staff will be able to keep the place running smoothly.

... this is a mess.

Unfortunately I was kept completely in the dark about what was going on, so I had no clue until after it happened. I wasn't told there was a risk of an impending attack from another Dimension or anything, so I've spent the last two weeks trying to dig up as much information as possible and play catch up.

I've not really made a big thing of my birthday the last few years, aaand there's been a few years where I've even forgotten about it entirely.

I wonder if I should do anything big for my 30th next year.

Guess I have a whole year of being 29 to figure it out!

In the meantime, I'm looking forward to the Duel Festival! Seems like something really fun for everyone!
Ruka came to me with an idea about possibly setting up a small duel spirit 'petting zoo' for the festival, so people can meet and learn about Duel Spirits and get to interact with them. I think it's a pretty good idea, so it's something we'll be looking into!

I've been having physiotherapy since the New Year and thankfully it's been helping me to get back to my feet. While I still can't do anything too strenuous, I can at least move around with more ease now.

I'll be returning back to SAI this week, albeit on restricted hours for this first week or two. I'll be mostly stuck with just the office work for a while and maybe giving talks now and then.
No working out in the field for me for a while yet, which is going to drive me crazy, but that's how it is.

In short, I'm getting better, but the healing process is slow.

I was finally allowed home yesterday, so I'll be resting up there for the next week.
My next appointment is in a weeks time, so I'll probably be starting the physiotherapy just after the New Year. I'm hoping to get back on my feet as soon as possible.

Firstly, thank you to everyone who's been visiting or sending your well wishes, it's been really appreciated.

I've got somewhat good news. After being seen by Souha, they feel that my power and Yubel will repair and heal, but both are very damaged, so it's going to take a long time, but for now, I'm going to focus on the fact that it will fully heal eventually.

Physically, I'm still doing a lot of healing there too. They're hoping I can be out of the hospital by the end of the week, but I'll be on strict bed-rest for at least another week, then after that, they'll assess me again and if the injury to my back has healed enough, I'll be starting some physiotherapy.
Walking hurts a LOT right now because of the back injury, I kind of hobble around like an old lady. They don't want me moving too much though in case I bust open the stitches, so I only really move around if I need the bathroom or something and even then Asuka or one of the nurses has to help me.
I gotta admit, that's one of the hardest and most frustrating things about all this right now. Not being able to move much on my own.

Chances are the injury will leave a lasting scar, even after it's healed, but it'll be my only really significant scar in what is many years of dealing with dangerous supernatural stuff, so I think I should count myself lucky there.

Thankfully I know SAI is in good hands while I'm not there, though I'm sure I'll still be able to answer e-mails and manage a few things from my laptop while laid up, but otherwise, my staff is currently fully in charge of things for now, including keeping the New Horizons Project going.

*Laying still in his hospital bed, all Juudai could do was stare up at the ceiling of the room he was in. It'd been a while since he had last found himself in this kind of position, but his luck was due to run out eventually, right? He'd been unconscious since returning from the warp and had only just regained consciousness a few days after it. All he knew was that he definitely didn't feel 'right', he felt like there was more wrong with him than just physical injuries and even though he could still feel Yubel's presence in his soul, he hadn't heard from them. He'd even noticed that some of the injuries he had sustained while protecting Alex's life energy were not healing as fast as they usually would.
Somehow he felt like he had a long recovery ahead of him.

The New Horizons Project is beginning this week, so I thought I'd write up a bit more about it and what you'll be doing for those who are going to be taking part!

This is a joint project between SAI, Duel Academy and LDS which will allow students from LDS, Duel Academy and Domino High School, as well as graduates, to take part in gaining experience and learning about the supernatural, including Duel Spirits and those with unusual abilities. We hope by the end of the project that you'll have a better understanding of our mission and of the supernatural in general.
For the duelists among you, LDS' side is there to help give you more experience in your dueling, especially with the Action Duel system and will be aimed at giving you a better chance of getting into professional dueling. You will be able to compete with your fellow duelists on the project in exhibition matches and may even get to show off your skills to potential sponsors who might visit and watch.

At SAI, you will be working in groups in various different areas of our work, including;
- Working in our 'Spirit House' in order to help look after and interact with the smaller spirits that reside there and help in the assistance of the guided tours.
- Helping with public talks in areas such as schools, community centres, town hall ect.
- Helping to handle small controllable problems on the street, under the guidance of a SAI employee/volunteer. This might include helping to diffuse small issues peacefully, or doing such things as re-locating a small spirit that may have made it's home in an unwanted place.
- You may also get the chance to help educate some spirits in human customs and culture.

SAI employees and volunteers will also be providing you all every now and then with talks on various areas of our work; our goals, the issues we wish to tackle, things like that.

The project will take place twice a week, allowing those still at school to attend regular classes for the rest of the week, though this project will help to count towards your grades at the end of the year.
For those who are graduates, if you happen to find an area of work at SAI that you feel passionate in, you are more than welcome to do any extra volunteer work for the extra experience!

I think that about covers it! I am really looking forward to the start of this project!

I've stayed kind of quiet on here during the tournament, mostly because if I wasn't preparing for, or taking part in matches, I was working on doing final preparations for the joint project we'll be launching at SAI next month, as well as other things I've been working on, so I haven't had a lot of time to really sit back and reflect on things.

Guess I have some time now, though.

I kinda just entered this tournament for fun at first. I really missed being a Pro Duelist and taking part in the first Action Duel World Championship was really exciting, so I entered without a second thought. Now I find myself here at the finals, against one of my closest friends and I know the two of us will give everyone a duel they won't forget!

Isabel asked me the other day what is was that I wanted to do when I first started at Duel Academy and I gave her an honest answer. I just joined to have fun duels. I had no plan, no idea for the future, I just wanted to duel and have fun with it. Then, things gradually started getting a little crazy at the Academy. A lot of bad stuff happened and I learned things about myself that were frightening at the time. Things just kept happening and I had a power I was struggling to control. I started to wonder back then what I was really dueling for, as I found myself dueling more and more to protect my friends and the Academy. I lost the sense of fun.
It took me a while to come to terms with a lot of things, such as my power as the Supreme King and the fact that duels aren't always fun. Sometimes you do have to protect those you care for with it.
By this time I'd chosen to become a Pro Duelist, but I struggled to start off in it. I wasn't happy and it reflected in my dueling, and then more stuff happened and ah...
... well, lets say I kinda realised I needed to stop being so concerned with the past and letting it effect me, because life was short and I wanted to live and experience things. Granted, this was before I found out that I'm not really ageing, but, hey!

I started my career as a Pro Duelist and I had a great time getting to go to different tournaments around Japan and then in a few places in the world. It was fun! Also taking part in the WRGP with Team Spirit, right up until my retirement duel with Johan! I was pretty sad when I left my dueling career behind, but I decided to concentrate on something I felt was a little more important in current times.

The Spirit Foundation was small enough to run beside my dueling career, but merging it with the Arcadia Movement to create SAI was a big move and a big commitment, but a move that I really wanted to do. Something I felt was needed. We'd worked for years on human-spirit relations, but those in the city with Psychic Powers were losing a source of support and I realised that with my own experiences with supernatural powers and those of friends of mine, I could be a source of support and guidance for others with abilities like this, the sort of guidance myself, nor my friends, really had.
My power has a terrible history to it, one I was constantly told I was going to follow, which was why it took me so long to accept it fully as a part of myself. I often found that I couldn't talk to people about it or how I felt about it, so I feared it silently, which lead to a pretty rough time of my life. Sometimes, these things are unavoidable, but having someone there to support you and understand a little of what you're going through can really help. I wanted to help support those with supernatural abilities, give them a place to go, to learn about their abilities, to talk about them, to feel welcome, as well as educate others ... much like the similar work we'd been doing with spirits.

Now I look at where I am now, standing at the finals of this tournament. Thinking of all this makes me realise how winning it could really help promote SAI and get our message out there about Duel Spirits and supernatural abilities and how they shouldn't be feared. I want to better send this message and our work out beyond Domino City!
There will always be people like Touki, and there may always be people who'll use tragic events such as Heartland to twist the blame to things they don't understand, but with better knowledge being available more widely, I think more people will understand and not fear things that they feel are 'different'.

That's my main goal. That's what I want to aim for by winning this tournament.

Though... there is a little something else too. Something I felt I never really managed in my pro career.
I want to be able to stand equally with someone. Someone I have a lot of respect for and someone I really owe my dueling too. He was my mentor growing up. Someone who re-introduced me to the game and taught me to have fun with it.
I want to be able to stand as high as he did.
And I might not get another try at this for a while.

I talked to him a little bit earlier today too and I know he'll be watching. I know he wants to see me reach it as much as I do.

We've been getting a lot of interest on the project that we have running alongside LDS which is great to see! I really hope this project benefits everyone who joins it.

The project will officially start when the new school year at Duel Academy begins in the first week of October. This was decided since next month will be finals month for Duel Academy, so students will be focused more on that.
For those who won't be graduating this year, the project will count towards your school work as an 'extra credit' thing and allowances on your timetables will be made for it.
